On this Thankful Thursday, I am reminded of a friend who has found himself  almost all out of faith. Actually, I have several friends hanging on by a thread.

I have been there many times myself. I fight back hard when those thoughts of fear, doubt, hurt, rejection and other health, life and financial concerns try to creep their way into my life and undermind my faith.

You know those voices you hear that say things like, “Are you crazy, that is never going to work?”  Or  you hear a friend is sick and then you think “What if I get sick and something happens to me, then what will happen to my family?”

Then there are the “What if’s” which start playing out in your mind.  What if this or  What if  that or  What if, if ,if …

God knows your fears and worries, all the “what if” scenarios that worry you.  Come on sweet friends, let’s be honest. We all have those fears, even on a day when we are trying hard to focus on the good things in our life and keep the faith.  Days just like today, Thankful Thursday, and yet fear and faith are in direct opposition with each other.  God’s word says He did not give us a spirit of fear, but sometimes we have to beat it back with everything we’ve got.

But we have all had these thoughts more than we want to admit, I know.

Someone once said to me “Corby, if you were really trusting God and had true faith you wouldn’t have fear and stress in your life.”  REALLY, are you kidding? Then I said “Do really believe that?”  They did and I don’t.

Life is full of things that can scare us right out of our pants as Dr. Seuss said . But yet when we are overwrought with this that kind of fear and lack of faith we must not grow weary, but fight the good fight of faith as the apostle Paul said.  We must press into our faith even when are knees are shaking.

The first line in M. Scott Peck’s book,  The Road Less Traveled, is “Life is Hard.”  It was a mega hit because everyone could relate. Life  is hard but that is all part of the journey, and the faith walk we find ourselves on is sometimes just plain hard.

Hanging onto God as you find yourself hanging on to the edge of life. Well that’s  faith.  As you are dangling by the edge of uncertainty, God is right there with you my friend. Yes, you might fall, but the God of the Universe is there to catch you. You might hit rock bottom, but again, He is there.

I was so blessed to have parents that I could call on any time and any place when my faith was running on low.  They were right there to pray for me and help me get through those rough spots. We need to be those kind of friends and parents too.  Faith walkers and dream casters for those we love.

Mom and Dad would say things like:

This won’t last forever …

You will get through this …

Three years will go by fast …

He will make a way, when there seems no other way …

You can do anything God has called you to do …

God is God and He will take care of you …

Family and friends can help keep our our faith alive!

The wife of a dear friend of mine has been sick with a terminal illness.  They gave her three to six months to live and she is still fighting the disease that is in her body two years later.  We have prayed for healing and she has hung on to faith. Her husband’s faith has been remarkable.

Now comes the dreaded news has comes that he might be sick too and fighting a disease in his body.

I have also learned of another dear friend  who is in the hospital fighting for her life.

Where is God you might ask?  He is right there. I am certain of that. He says in His word, “He will never leave us or forsake us!”

So what do we do when our world is turned upside down?

What do we do when we no longer know what to pray or how to even pray?  What do we do when the words don’t even come?

What do we do when we have done all we know how  to do and it still doesn’t seem to be enough?

Ephesians says, ” When you have done all else, Stand.  Stand Firm!”  I love that! Can’t you just see a football player rooted firmly on the field unwilling to give up any ground to the opposing team.  Our opposing team, my friend, is Satan himself. You can do all God has called you to do because He would never call you to do anything He has not equipped you to do!  No matter the circumstances.

When I wrote Monday Muse ~Dreams and Inspiration, I cried a million tears. I recalled death, funerals, sickness and the loss we have experienced in our life.  The loss of my mother and father and the SONs’ furry friends too.  I have been near tears all week. Tears for my friends who are sick.  Tears for tears sake.  I do not like that feeling, but sometimes that is just life.

As Winters wrote on the back cover of his book “The Little Black Dress and the SONs of Thunder,” ” We have faced death, near death and attended funerals we did not want to. They were too early, we need more time.

Time is a funny thing. It just keeps on moving as it will on this Thankful Thursday.  Yesterday, I had a pain in my body and fear penetrated my being and the first thing I did was pray for God to take care of me.

How do we fight the enemy? By praying. By pressing in to God in our time of need and by believing the word of God and by holding on to faith when we are out of it.

As I said on Sunday, we must know the enemy to prevail against it.  For some of us it is just plain old fear, for others it is addictions or the reality that the end of our life is near.

But fear is fear … and faith is faith.

Today on this Thankful Thursday if you find yourself almost out of faith remember that God said in His word “All you need is the faith of a mustard seed.”  A mustard seed is as tiny as a pin head.

We can muster up that much faith, I know we can.

So today sweet friends be blessed encouraged on this Thankful Thursday as we trust God to renew our strength so that we may mount up with wings of eagles and not grow weary!

Thank you , once again, Corby, for those encouraging words. We shouldn’t beat ourselves up if we have times of doubt. We need to grab that rope of faith and just hang on. We need to know that a mustard seed’s worth of faith will do it. Love you bunches!
