Sometimes our best laid plans aren’t the best plans after all and yet, sometimes they are.  We must  just be willing to see it, that being the plan that is different from our own.

Yesterday, I had a bit of fun sharing our day on Facebook with some friends that followed along.  For those that didn’t, I think it is a perfect message from the Little Black Dress today.

Those of you who know me well know I adore Christmas, and if you don’t know me, well, it wouldn’t take long for you to soon discover that. The thought of putting up Christmas decorations simply puts a smile on my face and a bounce in my step no matter how heavy the boxes are.

Each year I try to think of something that I can do that will enhance what I did the year before.  The first year we were married we thought we had the most beautiful tree ever.  The fact is we were just in love. It was the wackiest tree ever, but will forever be one of our all-time favorites.  Except for that one tree we got that was so enormous we had to hack the entire  back out of it to fit into our living room in Alaska.

But now I after 196 years of marriage  (The Writer says 187), I think I am getting close to perfecting our Christmas decor and ambiance.  Funny how we all look at the holidays in a different way.  From childhood we begin to build traditions and memories that stick with us a lifetime.

I am a theme girl.  I use all kinds of colors at Christmas and all kinds of decor,  from sticks to garlands to shells to silver tea pots to whatever else I can turn into something spectacular.  Poor Winters, he is a bit of a Scrooge and feels that we should really only decorate about five days before Christmas and he worked hard to convince me that one tree was enough. Ha!

My thoughts to that are, why bother then at all?  So I just do what I love and we all seem to love it.  But it is hard work.  It means hauling out our 8 million boxes of Christmas decorations out of the attic, ugh. Pain, pain, pain on the knees, pain on the neck, pain on the back, but  Fun, Fun, Fun!!!  This is what I was thinking yesterday as I started my holidaying!

But that was soon to change when Winters announced to the SONs that today would be a perfect day to empty our shed here in Newnan.  We had been working toward the goal for weeks and had  been preparing for the purging and moving of things, but it is never as easy as it sounds. So much for my well laid plans. A day of merriment …

It turned into a day of purging, sorting, storing, spring cleaning, letting go and yes, a few tears as I looked at a life that looked very different from the ones in the pictures I was seeing as I opened the boxes from the shed.  But tears are a good thing, even at the holidays.  In fact, I believe they are a good thing anytime you need them.

So Winters’ plans were good plans too.  We emptied a shed and rid ourselves of it.  We have lighted our load. Winters and I say celebrate the small stuff.  Winters’ books are now together and ready to be sent off at a moment’s notice.  Seriously, if you want Winters books I can hook you up!  That too is great.

Decorating for Christmas was a much better plan to me than the shedding of the shed, but sometimes other’s plans are just as important and we have to be open to see it.  We have to seize the moment.  Carpe diem as they say.  Not sure anyone ever used “carpe diem”  in terms of purging a shed, but I believe for us it was indeed fitting.

Lessons of wisdom we can apply for life:

1. You can always decorate, you can’t always purge your shed. So I have been helping with shedding the shed and decorating as well. It is all, as Winters, says, good. It is coming together, slowly, but surely.  Letting go is a good thing …

2. Christmas is about Christ. He is the reason for this season.  It is our opportunity to share His love and message with the world. To our friends, sales clerks, teachers and everyone in between. Seize the season to share Christ Love!

3.   It is about family and for me it is about making memories that will last the SONs a lifetime, just like my mother’s purple tree, memories that have stayed with me all these years. Like when she showed up as Santa at my job. Now that was a memory.

The LBD Whimsy, Wit and Wisdom is to seize the moment!  This Christmas will be over before you know it, so to all my friends I say “carpe diem”! And may you shed what you need to shed and move on!

Happy holiday’s, sheds and all.

Be blessed and encouraged dear friends!!!
