The SONs  of Thunder have been sick. Sick for days on end.

Winters has always said that I am a great nurse for about three days and after that everyone is on their own.

I have always balked at this until this past week.  SONs trapped in a house sick on Spring Break is well, no Spring Break.  But I am sure I do not have to tell you that.

It seemed as if the whole neighborhood was sick and most of the SONs’ friends.

Soup and muffins were made and distributed to various ill friends and then in the middle of that “the bug ” tried to jump on me.  I did the regular charismatic thing, binding and loosening and praying a lot – and a whole bunch of  hand sanitizing just for extra precaution.   But to no avail, the bug still jumped on me,  I have been fighting back and fighting back hard though!

So today the Eldest SON returned to the doctor for yet another strep test that would indeed prove positive – the second such outcome in the last two weeks.

This nurse is running out of empathy. Oops did I just say that …

The irony is that while waiting in the doctor’s office, which was filled to the brim mind you with other sick kiddos, a mother was called to the front desk.  She left her little precious 18-month or so sleeping in a chair near me. The Eldest SON had his head on my shoulder moaning, yes you read that right, moaning and moaning and more moaning.  He got that from my mother’s side of the family.  By this time I too was  ready to moan.

And out of the blue this little toddler (who was darling mind you) got up and came over to me and put his head on my leg and started to sleep.  So I did the natural thing that any mother would do, I picked him up in my arms and gently rocked him and he promptly fell back to sleep in my arms.

It was a sweet moment.  I was transcended to another place and time and all was right with the world as I held this little baby I didn’t even know.

His mom peeked around the corner and smiled.  A sweet innocent precious moment when one mom helps another.

Finally she returned.

The Eldest SON learned a valuable lesson – you can’t always worry about what everyone thinks.  Sometimes you have to rise to the occasion and just DO the right thing.
