A friend posted on her Facebook page today this great quote, ” You know you have grown up when none of the things you WANT for Christmas can be bought in a store.”

I love that, but unfortunately, I love shoes too. That may appear shallow, but I know I’m not alone in this love, and shoes are usually found in a store.

As I mentioned last week, our washer went out.  That too must be found in a store. Now is that a want or a need?

We were blessed that when left Oklahoma some friends gave us their extra washer and dryer set.  They could have sold it to us, but the merely said “here, take them, they’re yours.”  It was a gift as we began to start our lives over again in Georgia.

For two years and one month the washer was faithful to us.  But it was tired and finally gave up.  I know the feeling …  Don’t you?

It smoked and stunk the house out.  Winters was convinced it might be like a phoenix and rise from the ashes.  So he asked me, “are you sure it smoked or could it have been steam?”  Ok , really. I am sure I had what he often describes as a “look” and I am pretty sure I had a tone.  As I explained,  I know when something is smoking.

But to no avail, He turned the washer on and goes outside.  Smoke arises and no fire extinguisher near by.  Something is wrong with this picture! Thankfully we did not need the extinguisher. Bless him, his faith was strong, but the washer was dead.  That was confirmed by our appliance guy. When he uttered the words “It’s DEAD.”

So it was indeed true. Wee needed a new washer. Yippie!!  Just what the Little Black Dress wants for Christmas.

Sometimes what you NEED must be bought in a store and it is not what necessarily what we want at the time.

We don’t have money for a new washer right now.  Yes, we have money, but it is allocated toward the priority things: braces, doctors, bills, medicine, car repairs, mortgage and yes, shoes. Okay, just a bit of humor.

I got a great deal on a washer and I began the process of washing ten million loads of laundry.  I have posted a picture to prove that four men can produce an enormous amount of laundry.

Winters was down to all his camping clothes, yes even down to his boxers.  He is one tough cookie.  No wonder he loved Alaska.

As usual, I pray during arduous tasks like house cleaning and cleaning toilets.  I was busy yesterday praying as I folded the mound of clean clothes you see posted.  I have barely talked to a soul.  But friends have called and left sweet messages, sent me words of encouragement and scriptures to inspire me as I tackled the last two wacky weeks.   I still have about four more loads.  But kuddos to the SONs for putting almost everything away.  And, yes in case you are wondering you can see the floor in my bedroom now!!

I have always said, that the clothes will always be there and trust me they are.

I can almost always see the bright side of things and I certainly do so in this situation too.  In fact, sometimes I am so positive someone once implied I was Polly Anna.  Winters said he thought that was a good thing and so do I.

Our cup can be half full or half empty.  I prefer half full even when it comes to the washer.

Here is a bit of wisdom I can share this Thankful Thursday besides the fact I am grateful to have a washer, a house to put it in and plenty of cloths to wash in it.  All those are blessings and things to be grateful for.

But the best wisdom came from a friend on Facebook when she reminded me that the new washer was a “gift that keeps on giving.”  Praise God for years to come!  Thank God for great Godly wisdom and friends who help us see things from a different vantage point.

So on this Thankful Thursday I pray that you and I can look around and celebrate what we have.  Even if it is new, old or broken down, it is still a gift and provision from our heavenly Father.

Dear friends today give thanks for the gifts that keep on giving like a new washer.  Oh and I can’t forget those fabulous leopard shoes too!

Be blessed and encouraged abundantly today and may we remember to laugh at our situation because it could always be worse.
